In 2025, your local Rotary Club plans to hold our regular fundraisers, including four community Pancake Breakfasts on each of the long-weekend Sundays from Victoria Day weekend in May to Labour Day weekend in September, and tend bars for events as needed. Rotary will also continue to host Trivia Nights, Sunday Coffee Socials, special events such as Oktoberfest and a Chili Cook-off, and other fundraisers, as well as other concerts and events at Rotary Hall.
Your local Rotary Club is committed to community engagement and support, always striving to follow the Rotary motto of ‘Service Above Self’. Community support encompasses our long-standing commitment to youth and education through our continuing Scholarships Program with the local high school, support for those in need (such as donations towards area Food Banks), and support for our Seniors (through fundraisers, projects and initiatives in support of Golden Dawn Seniors Home in Lion’s Head).
Support for Local Youth
For decades, your local Rotary Club has maintained an active scholarships program supporting the post-secondary aspirations and goals of high school graduates of our local Bruce Peninsula District School here in Lion’s Head. Each year we award up to five scholarships (now valued at $1,500 each, up to $7,500.00 in total) at the annual graduation ceremony held at the end of June. These scholarships support students pursuing full-time post-secondary studies in university, college or in trades/vocational programs:
The Highest Academic Proficiency Scholarship ($1,500) to the student with the highest Grade 12 average as determined by the School.
The Bob Spearing ‘Service Above Self’ Scholarship ($1,500) to a student whose volunteer and extracurricular activities best exemplify the Rotary motto of ‘Service Above Self’.
The Keith Hopkinson Memorial Scholarship ($1,500) to a student entering medical or health-related post-secondary studies.
The J.C. Buckley Memorial Scholarship ($1,500) to a student entering a skilled trade or technical program.
Mary Cameron Award ($1,500) for ‘Most Improved Student’ selected by BPDS.
Support for Local Seniors
Your Rotary Club continues to support residents of Golden Dawn Seniors Home here in Lion’s Head in various ways. In past, we have participated in different fundraising projects for Golden Dawn, including concerts and silent auctions held at Rotary Hall. In the spring of each year, Rotary purchases hanging baskets of flowers for the outside patio areas of Golden Dawn. In November of each year, Rotary sponsors the birthday celebrations for those residents celebrating birthdays in the month of November.
Support for the Global Community
Beyond the many local Rotary projects and events, your local Rotary Club supports the broader global community by donating to initiatives such as Rotary International’s ‘Polio Plus’ campaign (to help eradicate polio disease from all countries of the world), and to our Rotary District 6330 ‘Hand Up’ project (to provide humanitarian aid in support of water and other infrastructure projects in countries such as Guatemala).
